The goal of the anxiety and depression peer support group is to provide a caring and supportive environment in which people can affiliate with others who are experiencing similar mental health issues and learn that they are not alone. Studies have shown that experiencing social support has a positive effect on a person’s mood and coping skills. As a result, the primary purpose of this group is to create a healing community where people can create long-term positive social connections that allow them to both give and receive support.

Group members report that participating in depression support groups has helped them to:

  • express their feelings in a safe environment.
  • learn that they are not alone.
  • feel understood by others who are dealing with the same issues.
  • give and receive support.
  • feel part of a community.
  • feel empowered to create their own personalized recovery program.
